Activity

The activity and technological orientation of the Construction Unit focuses on and is concentrated in four areas in their different fields of application:

  • Innovative and sustainable Materials
  • Restoration
  • Building
  • Energy efficiency
  • Safety of buildings and infrastructures

We tackle the development of innovative/groundbreaking products and services; they range from the use of nanotechnology to obtain self-repairing materials to the design of Eco-buildings and Eco-neighbourhoods, including the conception and realisation of products and systems that improve thermal, and acoustic comfort and the protection against fire as well as accessibility to the built work in an all-round approach that ranges from the atom to the territory.

At the same time, solutions are specified for the problems of users and companies in the sector; these cover integral Restoration of existing heritage, Safety of buildings and infrastructures in the event of fire and explosions, the conception of intelligent Buildings, energy Certification services, the Characterization and Certification of building materials and products, and even Inspections and quality control of infrastructure. All of this includes the promotion of new technology-based companies, and the introduction of a business model partly based on the patent rights and industrial exploitation of technology assets.
