CCIMC training new generation of scientists to meet challeges facing chemical industry in 21st century

2020.07.27

TECNALIA has joined CCIMC (Coordination Chemistry Inspires Molecular Catalysis), a new training network that will push the frontiers of knowledge in chemical catalysis

The production of 80% of industrially relevant chemicals involves catalysis, which accounts for about 20-30% of World Gross Domestic Product. Therefore, catalysis lies at the heart of our chemical industry. However, there is currently a lack of coordinated doctorate-level training in Europe.

To address this need, Coordination Chemistry Inspires Molecular Catalysis (CCIMC) has been set up, as an innovative training network under the European Joint Doctorate programme. It aims to push the frontiers of knowledge in ligand design, coordination chemistry, precatalyst development, catalyst recovery and catalytic process implementation, while also offering full-scale training in professional and personal transferable skills.

The CCMIC project was launched in March 2020 and will run over four years. To achieve its objectives, a consortium of 9 academic beneficiaries from 7 European countries will develop coordinated projects including 15 doctoral students. The innovative training approach also involves 8 partners from the industrial sector that are fully integrated via secondment and participation in the theoretical training and network meetings.

In the secondment phase, Tecnalia will incorporate three early-state researchers who will work alongside us at our facilities for three to four months on the catalytic transformation of biomass-derived substrates and asymmetric hydrogenation using our multi-channel reactor.
