Tecnalia participates in a market research to evaluate the potential of adaptation to climate change by the forestry sector

The development of new services based on historic data, forecasts and climate projections is considered

Bosque

The aim of this study is to identify and explore the potential that new climate services based on data and tools offered by the Copernicus Programme's Climate Change Service (C3S Copernicus Climate Change Service) can offer the forestry sector.

To do so, we are analysing the main needs and requirements of the sector in close collaboration with different types of users and agents: from small private holdings to large national companies in the forestry sector. These are specialised in areas such as forestry management, genetics, forestry restoration, disaster management, plague control and urban forestry.

The purpose of this study is the development of new customised services that increase their resilience and adaptation to climate change, based on already available C3S data: historic climate data, seasonal predictions and/or long term projections.

This process is being carried out within a collaborative framework in which we are participating along with the European Forest Institute, The Green Cube and Vizzuality. The recipient is the Copernicus Climate Change Service - C3S, which is implemented by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWFon behalf of the European Commission.

The activities described will support the Copernicus programme in the definition of the evolution of the climate-based services over the coming years and will help the forestry sector to face the challenge of climate change.
