The Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course was created by Ken Schwaber, co-inventor of SCRUM and founder of, Agile Alliance and Scrum Alliance, as part of his mission to improve professional software development. PSM is the worldwide training course from SCRUM Masters, a positive agent for change to help make your organisation more agile.

What can I get from this course?

  • Identifying myths and misapprehensions surrounding SCRUM.
  • Why Scrum is much more than just sprints and meetings.
  • How real organisations use SCRUM to plan tasks.
  • Reassessing and eliminating organisational hurdles.
  • Developing effectiveness in teams and projects.
  • Conflict resolution and helping to get the best from people.

Who is it aimed at?

  • Anybody interested in improving efficiency and efficacy in software development teams within a company (project managers, IT consultants, HR, QA experts, IT methodology experts, etc.).
  • SCRUM Masters.

What do I get for successfully completing the course?

What do I need to successfully complete the course?

  • Participants work on SCRUM-inspired learning teams. The training is made up of presentations, exercises, and shared experiences on various aspects, where active participation is required.
  • Having attended all sessions.

How is the course organised?

  • SCRUM theory and principles: SCRUM is much more than a fad, much more than project management with sprints. Understanding the empirical process control theory is key to understanding how SCRUM works and to getting the maximum benefit from SCRUM events.
  • The SCRUM framework: SCRUM is not a methodology; it is a framework that needs to be understood fully in order to define the specific processes of each team and each organisation.
  • Definition of Done: using the Definition of Done correctly is the difference between a mediocre and an effective SCRUM. The road to agility involves removing barriers and making organisational changes, all of which need to be explained properly.
  • Completing a project with SCRUM: completing a project combining theory and practical teamwork to learn the SCRUM process: planning in a range of contexts (e.g. closed project, maintaining or developing an internal product), how to monitor its development.
  • Working with persons and teams: SCRUM Masters are not agile project managers. They combine facets of a coach and a mentor to help people, teams and organisations improve their effectiveness, self-organisation and self-sufficiency. Motivation, communication, team dynamics and conflict resolution are key to the success of a SCRUM Master.
  • SCRUM in your organisation: participants share and discuss ideas surrounding how to manage change in their organisations.
  • The role of the SCRUM Master: the role of SCRUM Master is normally completely new to most organisations, which can pose a real challenge. Understanding this role in depth helps to establish organisational expectations and to identify the persons most suited for this task.
