Is social welfare policy in Europe converging or diverging?

2016.02.15

The second INNOSI consortium meeting took place at the Ciudad Politécnica de la Innovación of the Universitat Politécnica de Valencia, Spain on 14th and 15th January, 2016.

The meeting was attended by a group of approximately 50 professors and researchers from the 10 European universities involved in the project and representatives from each of the impact partners. The members of the consortium met to discuss the findings of the work packages that have been completed to date and lay down the roadmap for future actions.

Special attention was paid to the findings achieved by some of the academic partners who are tackling the different visions of the “Social Investment” concept. After realising there is no single meaning for this notion, 3 critical dimensions have risen: New risk, Investment & Services.

The dynamics of Social Investment are also important, due to the fact that the majority of the SI programmes are run by regions and municipalities. A curious fact is that these actions in different European regions are currently in a process of converging according to the Social Expenditure data obtained.

TECNALIA as an impact partner of the INNOSI project took part in this meeting as well. Its role in this consortium is to mobilise knowledge and inputs obtained from the academic partners to inform policymakers and endeavour to create awareness in order to change and engage minds not to mention changing policies.
