PROMOTING WOMEN RESEARCHERS IN RESEARCH CENTRES AND UNIVERSITIES

2015.03.06

Tecnalia is part of this European project and is sharing a series of best practices to implement gender equality plans in the field of R&D

GenderTime, an initiative funded by the European Commission in the 7th Framework Programme, will last 48 months and is currently halfway through. Ten European institutions are taking part – one of them as Coordinator and another as Assessor, and the remaining eight partners, which include TECNALIA, are in charge of implementing said best practices.

The academic institutions and research centres involved in GenderTime are intentionally very different in terms of size, discipline, history, etc. in order to experiment in various situations and to create a synergy among scientific partners.

As for TECNALIA's contribution to the project, it involves a series of best practices based on teleworking and flexible working hours. These two measures have been well received by the rest of institutions. The other institutions have presented a series of measures involving activities such as recruitment, retention and promotion policies; supporting work-life balance measures; updated management and research standards; supporting policies for dual careers-couple, etc.

An event took place in Bilbao in December as part of this project, with the participation of the UPV (University of the Basque Country), the Observatory for Equality of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, and Tecnalia.
