lccingeniería hires Tecnalia to certify the treatment for the timber roof of the cathedral of Granada and prevent fungi and destructive insects

2017.07.13

We assessed the quality of the timber treatment by determining the penetration and retention of the protecting product

At the request of the consultancy firm LCCIngeniería - Laboratorio y Consultoría de Calidad e Calidad e Ingeniería, S.L., we have certified the Control of the protective timber treatment to be installed within the works to refurbish the roof of the cathedral of Granada against xylophages.

Our construction material laboratory has evaluated the quality of the timber treatment, by determining the penetration and retention of the protective product that was applied on the supplied samples.

The timber used in the rehabilitation of this roof, was fir glued laminated timber.

The tests consisted of the “Determination of the penetration and retention of the protective product” with the purpose of assessing the quality of the applied treatment for a “class 2” usage. For the assessment of the control we analysed the presence of active ingredients on the protective product applied on the timber and we compared it to the product datasheet and the Technical Building Code (CTE) to verify that the applied treatment is appropriate.

Our widely-renown laboratories offer these services nearly exclusively for the assessment of organic treatments. We assess the quality of protective treatments through the extraction of the biocide active ingredients present in the timber at different levels and perform a chromatographic analysis.
