Workshop on healthcare robotics and virtual reality: standards and best practices

Many companies on the healthcare robotics market struggle with a growing number of regulations and standards. TECNALIA is organizing an event on healthcare robotics and virtual reality best practices addressed to companies working on this technology development.

Along the event, several international experts on standards will participate sharing their knowledge on best practices and recommendations for healthcare robotics systems focused in software development, interoperability and human-robot interfaces.

The event will be divided into two parallel sessions with some interactions among them: one on healthcare robotics, and the other one on virtual reality, for those companies looking for new interactive interfaces. Experts on virtual reality and haptic feedback participating in TACTILITY project consortium will present last trends.

Healthcare robotics session’s aim

Dr. Patrick Courtney and Dr. Diego Torricelli will participate with some talks about best practices and standards to be applied on the development of healthcare robotics technologies.

The objective of this event is to have an open discussion on the healthcare robotics technologies among the audience and the invited experts.

A final working session will be held between the present audience and the speakers on existing and emerging technologies in healthcare robotics. Our aim as DIH-HERO network, is to support small companies on healthcare robotics technologies and accelerate their research and innovation.

Virtual reality session’s aim

Virtual and augmented reality have been applied in industrial and health applications with success. However, in TACTILITY project we are working on the immersion of the user in those virtual environments enriching the experience with tactile feedback.

Some international experts in the field such as Genova and Aalborg Universities or TECNALIA and Inria research centers will share with the audience their knowledge and experiences of the use of new interfaces for different applications.

At the end of the session the present audience could have the opportunity of test a real demonstration of the TACTILITY system.

  • At the end of both sessions, a networking space will be organized for those who want to contact the speakers.
  • Moreover, the TECNALIA’s Health Unit laboratories could be visited where some demonstrations of the systems developed by Neuroengineering and Medical Robotics areas will be presented.

Some space for networking with the experts participating would be possible at the end of the sessions. Face-to-face meeting could be requested with the speakers. Please, send an e-mail to Ainara Garzo with the aim of organizing the networking meeting.

*The event language will be in English.

About TACTILITY

European project that incorporates rich and meaningful tactile information into novel interaction systems with virtual environments, increasing the quality of immersive virtual reality and of tele-manipulation.

About DIH-HERO

Independent platform which connects Digital Innovation Hubs across Europe to create a sustaining network for all those who are active in the healthcare robotics sector. The project consortium consists of 17 core partners spread across 11 pan-European countries. Our primary objective is to accelerate innovation in robotics for healthcare. DIH-HERO especially focuses on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in maximizing their impact and reducing time-to-market.

DIH-HERO and TACTILITY projects have received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 825003 and No 856718, respectively.

Hybrid participation will be possible (presential and remote)
