In this webinar, we will explore how social laboratories can act as drivers of social innovation and key tools for implementing regional strategies through practical, participatory experimentation

The webinar is organised as part of the EU-LAC Social Accelerator project, and is designed to strengthen social innovation ecosystems in Latin America and the Caribbean. We will provide practical and methodological insight into social laboratories, from the time they are conceived and set up to their real use through good practice, in order to foster the creation of spaces for experimentation that foster social innovation in the regions.

A real-life example of a social innovation laboratory: Madrid City Council’s THIVIC social innovation laboratory

    • During the session, we will learn about the experiences of Madrid City Council’s THIVIC social innovation laboratory from Luis Rodríguez Vega, Head of the Innovation in Participation Service within the Sub-Directorate-General for Citizen Participation and Innovation at Madrid City Council. Through this example, we will find out how innovation in citizen participation is implemented in a real urban setting and what has been key to its success.
    • We will also delve deeper into the methodology behind social laboratories as spaces for experimentation. We will examine how these structures make it possible to turn strategic guidelines into concrete projects, by enabling the co-creation of innovative solutions that meet the real needs of different regions and maximise the impact of social innovation policies, with the help of Eguzkiñe Saenz de Zaitegi.
    • The webinar will conclude with a group discussion, in which we will invite all attendees to reflect on the coherence of the proposals presented and to consider how these experiences might be adapted and implemented in their own regions, based on their own circumstances and local contexts.
