Today’s electrical grids have more power converters connected to them. These converters have ceased to be passive elements whose installed power was insignificant with respect to the size of the grid, and have become an important part of it, affecting the grid’s stability.

The tools to study grid stability need to be updated: they are designed for the analysis of classic systems in which the grid’s stability was assured by large rotating machinery.

At TECNALIA, we have developed a tool for the analysis of the stability of such systems: it is modular and, unlike previous ones, it takes the dynamics of power electronic equipment into account.

CONTENT

  • Brief introduction to the current situation of the electrical grid and the grid stability problems caused by new converters.
  • Presentation of the new tool developed by TECNALIA for grid stability analysis.

TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Power electronic equipment manufacturers.
  • Grid stability related research groups.

SPEAKER

  • Asier Gil de Muro – Interconnection of power electronic equipment Researcher.
