“TECNALIA took part in the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 2-5 March to present advances in applied quantum computing”
TECNALIA attended the Mobile World Congress to show how Quantum Computing is moving towards real application scenarios in industry
TECNALIA colleague Irene López de Vallejo, Head of Quantum Business Development, represented TECNALIA at the event in several activities and key conversations.
One of the highlights was the joint presentation with Telefónica and Würth of a case study based on three-dimensional bin packing. This initiative showed a solution to the challenges faced by many companies seeking management efficiency and resource optimisation. The presentation was a great success and generated many conversations around how these technologies can add value today.
Strategic connections with key stakeholders in the quantum field
TECNALIA also held meetings with European representatives of D-Wave Systems, who highlighted the consolidation of the quantum ecosystem in Spain and the driving role of entities such as Telefónica. Irene took part in these conversations to provide insight into the real needs of business and how quantum can be integrated into the day-to-day business of companies.
During the congress, TECNALIA was able to catch up with key partners in its quantum projects such as QCentroid, IQM Quantum Computers and Fujitsu – organisations with which TECNALIA collaborates on various initiatives aimed at accelerating the adoption of quantum technologies in the business world. These relationships strengthen TECNALIA’s position as a benchmark for emerging technologies within digital transformation.
Institutional momentum and new opportunities
The Basque Quantum - BQAIN project had a significant presence during the event. Its new programme, launched in 2026, is gaining a lot of momentum in the surrounding quantum community.
According to Irene: “As a social researcher in this field, I feel very fortunate to be able to contribute, even in a small way, to this special moment for the community. Bringing together talent, institutions and companies is what will make it possible for quantum to really reach the real world”.
