The building sector accounts for 40% of demand for power and 36% of CO2 emissions in Europe
Solutions4Renovation is a comprehensive renovation service aimed at homeowners, which transforms current complex, piecemeal renovations into a simple, direct, attractive process, while improving industry take-up, strengthening inter-sector commitment and mobilising private investment.
The Turnkey Retrofit consortium has launched a one-stop shop for improving energy efficiency. Designed to make the renovation and restoration process easier for homeowners thanks to a turnkey solution, the one-stop shop also aims to stimulate renovation projects in Spain, France and Ireland.
The European Commission announced in October plans for its Renovation wave, with the aim of increasing the rate and quality of renovation of existing buildings, which will help to decarbonise EU building stock. In order to meet the 2050 decarbonisation goals set by the EU, we need to take measures now to increase the renovation rate, currently standing at 0.2-1.1% per year.
The European Union Green Deal identifies fundamental issues such as deficiencies in the renovation market (e.g. conflicting incentives, gaps between funding requirements and financial products on offer); the lack of specialised knowledge (e.g. lack of specialised personnel, lack of digital and ecological knowledge); and regulatory obstacles (e.g. piecemeal and overlapping policies and laws, insufficient compliance with existing requirements).
Improved renovation services may be part of the solution: one-stop shop services reduce costs and offer comprehensive building rehabilitation options.
