Data spaces and artificial intelligence, pillars of the AI4ES national network of excellence

Bilbao, Spain, November 2023 - The AI4ES network was created with a vision of becoming the Spanish benchmark for research, development and transfer of digital technologies that make it possible to process and analyse smart data.

These technologies range from storage and processing of massive data sources (specialist AI and data computing infrastructures), improvements in data quality and smart data analysis (big data analytics and machine learning), to secure, reliable data management and access (data spaces).

Data-driven economy and artificial intelligence

The objective of AI4ES is to boost the economy based on data and artificial intelligence nationally, facilitating the transfer of skills, results and technologies to the productive fabric, providing innovative solutions and services that require secure, reliable access to data, efficient processing, advanced analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

AI4ES brings together and harmonises the capabilities, infrastructures and R&D activities in these technologies of four Spanish technology centres of national and international renown: the Information Technology Institute (ITI, coordinator of the network), the CTIC Technology Centre Foundation, Eurecat, and TECNALIA. These centres are made up of a highly specialised human capital of more than 278 professionals, with research and technical expertise, with extensive multi-sectoral experience in R&D projects in the field of artificial intelligence and data analysis, with access to specialist infrastructures aligned with leading international trends.

Professional certification in data-driven enabling technologies

During the current year, the AI4ES network has provided Professional Certification in Data-driven Enabling Technologies. This free training responds to market needs and has made it possible to acquire basic knowledge about data sharing and exploitation (data spaces), new computing paradigms, essential concepts and advanced data analytics techniques, continuous learning models and architectures based on multimodal data.

This is complemented by the publication of job offers specialising in these technologies, and a Datathon aimed at students and professionals.

Following the publication of the Strategic R&D Agenda last year, this year the AI4ES network has launched a directory of specialist entities, finalised the development of an AI4ES reference architecture for data spaces, and prepared a demonstrator of a tourism data space to illustrate this architecture. A Diagnostic Guide on Data Exploitation and Data Sharing in Business was also published recently and is available in the public repository.

TECNALIA to hold the third AI4ES SUMMIT in Bilbao on November 30

On November 30, TECNALIA will hold the third AI4ES SUMMIT in Bilbao, a meeting which will be attended by an internationally renowned speaker, Francisco Herrera Triguero, Professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Granada and Director of the Andalusian Research Institute in Data Science and Computational Intelligence (DaSCI).

  • We will present the European funding opportunities for the next quarter, followed by a coffee-networking break.
  • This will be followed by a summary of the actions carried out by the network, focusing in particular on the AI4ES architecture for data spaces together with the AI4ES Tourism Data Space demonstrator.
  • The meeting will end with the AI4ES 2023 Datathon award ceremony.
