TECNALIA becomes the first centre to digitally connect its labs and experts to companies

20 July 2021
TECNALIA se convierte en el primer centro en conectar digitalmente sus laboratorios y expertos a las empresas
  • More than 140 companies are currently working with TECNALIA through the myTecnalia platform, which makes it possible to remotely manage projects, access the centre's technological infrastructures online, carry out remote testing at the customer's facilities, and make use of a digital consultancy, audit and inspection service using augmented reality
  • The aim of the initiative is to connect TECNALIA’s laboratories and experts to its customers, to bring them closer to these customers so that they can respond to their needs more quickly and efficiently.
  • As a result, TECNALIA has become the first national entity in the field of laboratory services that uses new digital connection tools to connect to its customers' networks in order to increase connectivity with them, thereby bringing its laboratories and experts closer to them.

June 16, 2021. TECNALIA’s research and technological development centre has gone one step further in its smartisation strategy and launched the first 4.0 laboratories, which make 360º communication possible with companies. This initiative allows TECNALIA to make progress in digitalising its laboratories and revolutionise the way the centre communicates and works online, thanks to the implementation of new online services that bring laboratories and experts closer to companies.

There are currently more than 140 companies working with TECNALIA through this pioneering platform, which makes it possible to remotely manage projects, access the centre's technological infrastructures online, carry out remote testing at the customer's facilities, and make use of a digital consultancy, audit and inspection service using augmented reality. Companies in the industrial manufacturing sector in construction such as Lanik (Euskadi) and Aluman (Galicia), and the Basque-based multinational Aclara, which specialises in the electrical sector, are already linked to the centre's new network of 4.0 laboratories.

AS a result, TECNALIA has become the first national entity in the field of laboratory services that uses new digital connection tools to connect to its customers' networks in order to increase connectivity with them, thereby bringing its laboratories and experts closer to them.

New digital services

The first stage of this digital transformation began in 2020 with the launch of the myTecnalia communication platform, an online platform for companies to monitor their projects intended for bilateral projects, i.e. those between TECNALIA and a company. It was another step forward in the digitalisation of the user experience which fosters direct communication with technical staff, efficient task management and permanent and safe access to information during projects and testing.

The tool was completed in June 2021 with the incorporation of three new services: online access to the centre's technological infrastructures, remote testing at customer facilities and the digital consultancy, audit and inspection service provided by TECNALIA experts using augmented reality.

Firstly, digital access to the laboratories will allow companies to monitor testing via streaming, and the storage of this information will make it easier to analyse historical data, and compare tests carried out at different times, which will lead to product improvement and development. In addition, augmented reality can be used to remotely monitor the set-up of test samples or view the samples after testing.

Secondly, the remote testing and certification service will allow TECNALIA's professionals to connect to companies' laboratories in order to supervise, audit or inspect tests carried out in their digitalised laboratories.

Thirdly, the digital consultancy, audit and inspection service will digitally bring TECNALIA's technical experts closer to companies via augmented reality, allowing them to carry out remote audits and digital technical consultancy services in an effective manner.

In short, this digital transformation will open up a new channel of communication with companies, which will facilitate project management, promote the flow of information and make it possible for them to monitor their projects virtually at TECNALIA's technological facilities, thereby achieving a more complete, efficient relationship adapted to the needs of the companies, reducing travel and increasing interactions whenever necessary.
