Manufacture and validation of the neutron injector for the generation of fusion energy in ITER

Real scale development and validation of the prototype of the neutron injector for ITER (international scientific experiment, whose objective is to demonstrate the scientific and technical feasibility of the generation of fusion energy). It is one of the two injectors that emit a beam of neutral particles of deuterium in the fusion plasma.

The MITICA Project, developed in conjunction with AVS, requires knowledge, development and fine-tuning of metal transformation materials and processes in extreme conditions.

It is worth highlighting the huge technological challenge faced in the assembly of dissimilar materials that are difficult to weld, in which different strategies are considered, based on the electron beam welding (EBW) of:

  • CuOF/CuOF
  • Inconel 625/CuCrZr
  • Orbital welding of Inconel 625/AISI 316L
  • AISI 316/AISI 316
  • Brazing of CuOF/AISI 316L
