International, national and local experts will analyse current developments in relation to the Circular Economy

The Department of Environment of Gipuzkoa Provincial Council is organising the International Meeting on the Circular Economy. They will also delve into the main strategies being pursued in key sectors, such as construction.

Round table on the Circular Economy in the construction sector

Urban environments account for a high percentage of pollutant emissions. According to the UN, half of the world's population, 3.5 billion people, live in cities and this figure is expected to rise to 5 billion by 2030.

Iñigo Vegas, Head of Construction Materials and Products at TECNALIA, will take part in this round table, in which the role of the construction sector in the creation of sustainable and circular cities will be analysed. Along with other international and national experts, they will analyse the steps being taken to achieve the goals set by the UN in SDG 11: sustainable cities and communities.

Other topics that will be addressed include:

  • the decarbonisation challenge in the construction sector
  • alignment with the 2030 Agenda and urban agendas
  • construction and demolition waste management
  • and material dependence
