TECNALIA is taking part in the new edition of the MENTES Network to develop and provide tools to facilitate decision-making in the transition of the Spanish economy towards a low-carbon economy.

In this new edition of the MENTES Network, coordinated by TECNALIA’s Energy Planning Platform and made up of a total of five universities (University of Castilla-La Mancha, University of Valladolid, University of Zaragoza, Public University of Navarre and Comillas Pontifical University) and four research centres (CIEMAT, IMDEA-Energía, Basque Research Centre for Climate Change, TECNALIA’s Energy Planning Platform), the aim is to develop and provided tools to facilitate decision-making in the transition of the Spanish economy towards a low-carbon economy.

The MENTES Network meeting will take place within the framework of the 20th Congress of the Spanish Association for Energy Economics (AEEE), which will be held on 2-4 June in Bilbao.

      Aims of the MENTES Network

The aim of the network is to coordinate national research groups working on energy modelling from different angles and methodological approaches:

      • Exploiting existing synergies and complementarities between the different groups that make up the network.
      • Aligning the research priorities of the different groups so that they adapt and respond to Spain’s strategic challenges in terms of energy transition.
      • To become a national benchmark group for energy modelling that can support policymakers and decision makers.
      • To promote capability building in energy modelling in Spain by means of training activities jointly organised by the network, through co-direction of doctoral theses and through short stays of doctoral and Master’s students at network centres.
      • Strengthen the international presence of national research groups through participation in supranational networks or initiatives.
      • Participate in national and international R&D&I projects jointly.
      • Share with society the results of the network’s lines of research, such as the impact that the energy transition and decarbonisation alternatives will have.
