Digital technologies to improve early detection and treatment of chronic diseases

2020.09.18

The GATEKEEPER initiative will develop a platform that combines information collected from the healthcare network and the users’ daily activities

Gatekeeper

GATEKEEPER creates digital solutions for the early detection and development of personalised interventions for elderly patients, using artificial intelligence at the service of the care of citizens.

The initiative features the deployment of a large-scale pilot project that will be developed over the next four years. It will involve nearly 40,000 elderly individuals in seven different countries of the European Union.

Solutions will be implemented at the homes and care centres of the people with the purpose of proving that the identification of risk situations may improve the progression of chronic diseases.

TECNALIA, one of the 43 partners participating in the project coordinated by Medtronic Ibérica, will develop and implement user-experience and virtual reality technologies that will help train patients and their families in the detection of stroke symptoms.

In collaboration with IIS Biocruces Bizkaia, which participates in the implementation of five cases in prevalent diseases such as Parkinson's, diabetes, heart failure, and COPD, TECNALIA will apply different technologies for the management of complex chronic or multi-morbid patients.

Pilot experiences will be deployed in seven countries of the EU: Germany (Saxony), Greece, Italy (Puglia), United Kingdom (Milton Keynes), Cyprus, Poland and Spain (Aragon and the Basque Country), as well as other places from around the world like Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
