TECNALIA and CTAG join forces in innovative mobility city project

  • Incorporating two leading technology centres elevates the potential of Fundación Ibercaja platform as a space from which to bring together, create and raise awareness of the best innovations and practices in mobility

Zaragoza, 21 October 2020. Basque-based technology centres TECNALIA and CTAG joined Mobility City, the initiative fostered by Fundación Ibercaja in conjunction with Aragón Regional Government. José Luis Rodrigo, managing director of Fundación Ibercaja , TECNALIA deputy director general for market, Agustín Sáenz, and CTAG managing director, Luis Moreno Diéguez, signed an agreement incorporating the two technology centres into Mobility City, an international project set up by Fundación Ibercaja with support from the Government of Aragón. It aims to position Spain at the forefront of the dialogue on mobility and the transformation of its associated industries and sectors.

Joining this initiative will enable the two centres to work on projects based around innovation, entrepreneurship and outreach, and to raise awareness in society of the challenge of new mobility, with the goal of improving their respective ecosystems.

CTAG and TECNALIA recently signed a partnership agreement to pool their resources and take on the challenges of advanced manufacturing and robotics in the automotive field, undertaking to find new alliances that will allow Spain to become a leader in the emerging mobility sector.

Joining Mobility City is the first example, and it elevates the potential of the Aragón-based platform as a place in which to come together, create and raise awareness of the best innovations and practices in the transition towards new mobility in industry.

With their experience in the area of innovation, the technology centres will provide their know-how on the integration of power applications and electronics, while Fundación Ibercaja will furnish the technical exchange of information and best practices.

By signing the agreement, the parties undertake to invigorate and develop R&D and innovation projects with a high level of technical maturity, in the form of real pilots and proofs of concept. They seek to develop smart, sustainable mobility solutions to enable cities and regions grow their business opportunities.

Under the agreement, the parties will also showcase their new developments at the Puente de Zaragoza exhibition hall. The space is currently being refurbished and is expected to reopen to the public in 2021.

TECNALIA

As part of the BRTA (Basque Research and Technology Alliance), TECNALIA is a benchmark Research and Technological Development Centre for Europe, with 1,400 professionals representing 30 different nationalities, focusing on transforming technology into GDP to improve people's quality of life, by creating business opportunities for companies. Its key areas of action are: Digital Transformation, Advanced Manufacturing, Energy Transition, Sustainable Mobility, Urban Ecosystem and Health.

CTAG

CTAG is a private technology centre created to offer advanced technological solutions to the automotive sector. With more than 800 professionals, it supports industry in the modernisation and adaptation of their products and processes to the new technologies. CTAG participates in new developments and major industrial projects. Its main areas of expertise are Manufacturing Processes, Materials, Safety, Validation, Electronics and Smart Transport Systems.

MOBILITY CITY

Mobility City is an international initiative fostered by Fundación Ibercaja, with support from the Government of Aragón and backing from institutions and businesses from a range of mobility-related sectors, including automobile manufacturers, telecommunications, power and infrastructure. It also has support from local and state bodies, research institutes, associations and universities. Its aim is to lead debate on new mobility and the transformation of associated industries and sectors.
