TECNALIA’s quantum lab works on quantum sensing based on nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond: it designs and develops quantum sensors such as the analysis of samples requiring high resolution, high sensitivity or minute volumes and concentrations.
Thanks to TECNALIA’s experience, it is able to detect magnetic signals with high accuracy, and its capabilities include other magnitudes such as electric field, temperature and pressure. All this enables it to achieve levels of reliability and detail that are impossible with conventional technology.
At the Quantum Research & Innovation Lab, TECNALIA is boosting the next generation of quantum sensing
The Quantum Research & Innovation Lab has all the necessary capabilities to be technologically independent: from diamond growth and generation of the nitrogen-vacancy quantum defect, to sensor prototyping. This allows TECNALIA to monitor the whole process and to approximate results at each stage.
TECNALIA’s sensors, based on this atomic defect, use the principles of quantum mechanics to measure different quantities of interest with precision down to a few nanometres, < pT/√Hz sensitivity, pL volumes and ultra-low concentrations. These precisions would not be achievable using conventional technologies. Furthermore, this technology works at room temperature, without the need for cryogenics, vacuum or magnetic shielding. Based on fundamental principles, the averages are absolute and calibration-free, and capable of vector-magnetometry.
