New technology and anti-graffiti security systems

“Graffiti poses an aesthetic problem and has a major economic impact”

We develop new technology and anti-graffiti security systems to protect transport vehicles in cities and surrounding areas

Graffiti in public spaces and on public transport poses an aesthetic problem and has a major economic impact: more than €25 million a year in Spain. On trains alone, vandals painted around 80,000 m², which required 15,000 hours of cleaning and amounted to nearly 4,000 cases of trespassing on Renfe premises in 2023 — more than eleven cases a day.

In the Basque Country, the company spent €860,000 and 450 hours cleaning the trains following 137 incidents of vandalism.

To address this challenge, we have developed the VANGRAF initiative in conjunction with ALSE SEGURIDAD, BECA GRAFIC and UKABI. This initiative involves the development of an automated active anti-vandalism management module, Edge Artificial Intelligence (AIoT) models for comprehensive security management, IoT communications for hostile environments and semantically rich BIM models for prevention, along with an eco-friendly, non-toxic cleaner to remove any graffiti.

VANGRAF addresses the problem of vandalism, namely the painting of graffiti on transport vehicles, such as trains, both in terms of prevention and action.

We also have the support of METRO BILBAO, which is offering us the opportunity to carry out full-scale testing at its facilities.

    Surveillance, security and sustainability

VANGRAF fosters a significant increase in security at the premises of numerous companies and in public spaces, reducing vandalism and unauthorised graffiti. Prevention is the best way to reduce both the economic impact of damage and the environmental impact of the products, materials and energy used in its cleaning.

    • Furthermore, it brings a new sustainable cleaning solution to the market, based on an innovative formulation containing bio-based ingredients and manufactured by BECA GRAFIC.
    • The product is non-toxic to the environment and does not require any hazard pictograms to be included on its label.

*The VANGRAP Project has been funded by the Basque Government through the Hazitek Programme 2024-2026.
