“TECNALIA is promoting a more resilient, inclusive, democratic society through the principles of digital humanism”
A digital Europe at the service of its people
Our involvement in the European EUDHIT – European Digital Humanism Initiative takes the form of an investment framework that steers funding decisions towards digital technologies that are in line with fundamental European rights, inclusion and democratic values.
The digital transformation is redefining the way we work, interact and engage in society. TECNALIA is involved in the European Digital Humanism Initiative (EUDHIT), funded by Horizon Europe, to ensure that this development progresses in a manner that is consistent with European values. Its aim is to promote a more resilient, inclusive, democratic society by applying the principles of digital humanism.
- EUDHIT brings together researchers, policy-makers, companies and civil society organisations to strengthen Europe’s ability to steer the digital transformation in line with values such as human dignity, freedom, equity and democracy.
- The initiative applies these principles to the design of technologies, public policies, business models and investment decisions:. Consequently, we are helping to ensure that technological innovation delivers tangible benefits for the public.
A European initiative to strengthen digital humanism
The consortium is made up of 11 organisations from various European countries, working in fields such as technology, ethics, law, economics and the social sciences. Together, they are developing tools, recommendations, indicators and training activities that promote a more humane, responsible approach to digitalisation.
An investment framework to promote technologies with a positive impact
TECNALIA is playing a leading role in defining mechanisms that translate the principles of digital humanism into the real-world economy. This work resulted in the production of the D3.2 Investment Framework deliverable, one of the initiative’s first significant results, published in April 2026.
This document proposes an investment framework for digital humanism aimed at investors, financial institutions, companies and public bodies. The tool helps to assess and guide investment in digital technologies, taking not only economic criteria but also their social, ethical and democratic impact into account.
- The aim is to facilitate funding decisions that contribute to developing and adopting technologies which respect fundamental rights, promote inclusion and create value for society.
- This approach responds to one of the main challenges of digitalisation: ensuring that investment flows support technological solutions that are in line with people’s needs and European values.
Moving towards a more people-centred digital economy
Our involvement in EUDHIT reinforces our commitment to developing responsible technologies and building a digital economy that puts people at the heart of innovation.
The initiative will generate knowledge, tools and opportunities for collaboration over the next few years, that will help Europe tackle the challenges of digital transformation from a humanistic perspective. The aim is to promote technologies that contribute to strengthening democracy, improving social cohesion and fostering sustainable competitiveness.
