Presentation of ArmAssist at one of the world's largest robotics forums

The best researchers and academics in the field of robotics and automation are currently meeting in London within the framework of the ICRA 2023 Congress (IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation). This event is the flagship congress of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, a global event that has been held around the world - from San Francisco to Shanghai - since 1984.

This 40th edition brings together more than 4,000 people in London, and several TECNALIA colleagues have travelled there to participate in various workshops and conferences. Je Hyung, Neuroengineering researcher at TECNALIA, has presented the technical development of the ArmAssist system, a robotic system based on serious games for the rehabilitation of the upper limbs (arm and hand) in stroke sufferers, at this international forum.

Robot assistant for upper limb rehabilitation

ArmAssist is a portable robotic device for the rehabilitation of upper limb mobility throughout all its phases, especially suitable for stroke sufferers. The system uses a mobile base to record shoulder and elbow movements and measure the patient's progress. This device is accompanied by a tele-rehabilitation platform, which enables patients to continue their rehabilitation at home.

This rehabilitation is supervised at all times by the therapist who provides a quantitative assessment of it.

This TECNALIA development has been developed in response to the needs of the millions of stroke sufferers each year, many of whom suffer permanent disability as a result. ArmAssist offers an individualised service that results in increased patient participation in the rehabilitation process and better results.

The event will share the latest research and discoveries in robotics and automation, workshops and tutorials, forums, exhibitions, robot competitions and various social events under the slogan "Embracing the future: making robots for humans".
