“The SusChem Young Chemical Researcher Awards is aimed at recognising and supporting emerging talent in the field of sustainable chemistry in Spain”

Jesús Torrecilla, Director of Ventures for Energy, Climate and Urban Transition at TECNALIA, will once again be on the jury of experts that will assess the applications submitted

The Technology and Innovation Platform for Sustainable Chemistry, SusChem-España, managed by Feique, launched the 17th edition of the SusChem Young Chemical Researcher Awards, an initiative that is aimed at recognising and supporting emerging talent in the field of sustainable chemistry in Spain.

The SusChem Awards, promoted by entities such as FEIQUE, ANQUE, CEDQ, Expoquimia, the Chemistry and Society Forum and TECNALIA Ventures, are aimed at highlighting the scientific, academic and entrepreneurial excellence of researchers under the age of 40. Since its creation in 2008, they have awarded 62 researchers selected from more than 1,200 nominations.

    Three categories with prize money

The awards are divided into three categories:

    • Futura: this is an award for the best academic record in chemistry or related areas (degree obtained in 2024), with a prize of 2,000 euros.
    • Investiga: this recognises the best scientific publication in 2024, with a prize of 3,000 euros.
    • Innova - Miguel Burdeos: this is aimed at innovative projects arising from public-private partnerships, especially in sustainable chemistry, the circular economy and decarbonisation. This award includes a prize of 5,000 euros and, in addition, the possibility of a research stay at TECNALIA's applied research laboratories or specialist mentoring from TECNALIA Ventures.

As a tribute to the late Miguel Burdeos, who was a leading figure in the Spanish chemical industry, the Innova award will bear his name in 2025, in recognition of his commitment to sustainable innovation and promoting young talent.

    Key dates

    • The application period will be open between 22 April and 30 May 2025 (until 3:00 pm CET) and must be submitted via the official SusChem-España website.
