Impulsamos la IA Generativa para la Cardiología y la Medicina

TECNALIA, the Spanish Society of Cardiology and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Foundation promote the use of generative AI for cardiology and medicine

Mungia (Bizkaia), 7 October 2025. The TECNALIA research and technological development centre, the Spanish Society of Cardiology (SEC by its Spanish acronym) and the Institute for the Improvement of Healthcare Foundation (IMAS by its Spanish acronym) have signed a framework collaboration agreement aimed at promoting the use of generative artificial intelligence in cardiology and medicine.

The aim of this agreement is to enhance cardiology and medicine through generative artificial intelligence, data ecosystems and advanced models, such as digital twins of the heart. This will help create a digital ecosystem to facilitate innovation and the transfer of results in the healthcare sector. The main purpose of the agreement is to promote innovation in cardiovascular health by integrating cutting-edge technologies, clinical research, and specialised training.

    Predictive models

The starting point of this collaboration lies in promoting secondary use of health data as a driver of knowledge and a lever for speeding up research. On this basis, the aim of the agreement is to transfer the latest advances in artificial intelligence to the field of cardiology, by applying predictive models and automated tools that improve health outcomes, facilitate the work of healthcare professionals, increase the efficiency of healthcare services, and open the door to new continuous training models.

As a result of this convergence between data and artificial intelligence, the third pillar of collaboration is to move research, development, and innovation forward on multimodal digital twins: virtual models that integrate clinical, genomic, imaging and lifestyle information to simulate therapeutic scenarios and anticipate individual responses. This technology represents a decisive step towards personalised medicine, allowing clinical decisions to be tailored to the unique characteristics of each patient.

With this alliance, TECNALIA, IMAS and the SEC have strengthened their commitment to scientific excellence, technological innovation and the continuous improvement of cardiovascular care, positioning themselves as leaders in the digital transformation of the healthcare system.

    • Javier González Lodoso, Health Market Director at TECNALIA, noted the unique nature of this collaboration: “Open innovation is now the basis for successful R&D, meaning that bringing together technology partners, clinical experts and health systems experts will ensure the future success of projects that will stem from this unique alliance working on artificial intelligence applied to healthcare”.
    • Meanwhile, Luis Rodríguez Padial, president of the Spanish Society of Cardiology, highlighted the importance of the initiative: “Signing this framework agreement represents a major step towards transforming cardiology and medicine in general through the use of generative artificial intelligence. This collaboration will allow us to make progress in diagnosing, treating and personalising medical care in cardiology.”
    •  “The aim of applying artificial intelligence to cardiology is not only to improve diagnosis and treatment, but also to transform the relationship between technology and patient health. It is a commitment to ensuring that innovation leads to more precise, personalised, effective medicine" said Ignacio Ayerdi, Coordinator of Digital Health at the IMAS Foundation. “This collaboration is key to helping people live longer, healthier lives by tackling cardiovascular disease with smart, humane tools”.
