TECNALIA shares its experience of major international initiatives, and the opportunities that fusion can open up for companies

On October 29, TECNALIA will take part in a conference organised by the Bankinter Innovation Foundation and the Donostia International Physics Centre to examine how fusion could become a new industrial opportunity for the Basque Country.

Fusion as a driver of industrial competitiveness

Fusion has become one of the major scientific and technological challenges on the international stage. Its development is driving new opportunities for high value-added industrial sectors and creating a growing demand for advanced solutions in materials, manufacturing, automation, robotics and testing.

“Nuclear fusion: a new industrial opportunity for the Basque Country” is an event that will bring together leading companies and organisations linked to the science sector.

    From the laboratory to industry

During the event, TECNALIA will take part in the round table discussion entitled “From the laboratory to industry: opportunities for technology and industrial companies”, where we will share our vision and experiences alongside representatives from leading companies in the sector, including:

    • Miguel Ángel Carrera, founder and CEO of AVS and a member of the Board of Directors of the European Fusion Association (EFA).
    • Carlos Ybarra, Head of Renewables and Operational Management at SENER.
    • Amaia Zarraoa, Head of R&D at IDOM.
    • Ana Díaz de Zugazúa, Industry and Mobility at TECNALIA.
    • Moderator: Erik Fernández Escudero, General Manager of INEUSTAR.

TECNALIA’s experience in large-scale scientific infrastructure projects

TECNALIA works together with companies to turn scientific challenges into industrial capabilities. During the debate, we will share our experience in international initiatives such as (ITER) and (IFMIF-DONES), two world leaders in developing fusion technologies.
    • Fusion is a field that is particularly R&D-intensive. As technology centres, we play a key role in speeding up the transfer of knowledge to industry and supporting companies in developing new capabilities.
    • Our work focuses on areas such as advanced materials, manufacturing processes, robotics, automation systems and validation testing, areas in which specific needs and opportunities for growth have already been identified for the business sector.
    • This event will provide an opportunity to learn about the technological trends in the sector and explore new opportunities for collaboration between industry, technology centres and scientific organisations.
