TECNALIA is organising the “Urban Decarbonisation Forum: District Heating and Cooling Solutions” in Vitoria-Gasteiz
This event will bring together public authorities, businesses, investors, energy operators and key players in the innovation ecosystem to analyse the role of heating and cooling networks in the energy transition of cities.
The event will explore innovative technologies, real cases and business models, focusing particularly on fifth-generation (5G) networks, which operate at very low temperatures, enabling the integration of renewable energy, use of waste heat and increased energy efficiency.
The challenge of the decarbonisation of heating
The decarbonisation of heating is one of Europe’s major energy challenges. Around 78 % of the energy currently consumed by households is used for heating and hot water, with a high dependence on fossil fuels. In this context, District Heating & Cooling networks are establishing themselves as a key infrastructure to move towards more sustainable cities.

- The forum is aimed at public authorities, energy companies, innovation bodies, industrial firms, developers, investors and infrastructure and building managers, who are interested in promoting District Heating & Cooling solutions to decarbonise cities.
- It will serve as a meeting point for the main public and private stakeholders involved in the energy transition and sustainable urban development.
