    Improving fire safety helps companies offer higher-performance products and increase public confidence.

    TECNALIA aims to improve the fire safety of emerging technologies by means of applied research, advanced testing, and technical and regulatory guidance, thereby helping companies improve the safety and quality of their products while increasing public confidence. As a secondary goal, we aim to create a fire safety knowledge centre, to share this knowledge with all market stakeholders.  

    To achieve our goal, we work in critical sectors such as energy, mobility, industry, and construction. We collaborate with companies, public and private organisations on strategic projects ranging from vehicle fires, fire risks in energy infrastructures, or fire propagation on façades. We offer all stakeholders safe and sustainable solutions aligned with international regulations, using digital tools, which integrate advanced data analytics and virtual models for predictive simulations.  

    With over 25 years of experience, we combine large-scale experimental platforms with rigorous scientific analysis and our work will place us at the international forefront of fire safety . 

    Our greatest innovation is the integration of experimental platforms with digital simulation and predictive analysis tools, which enable us to carry out high-precision assessment of the fire performance of new materials, construction systems, vehicles, and infrastructure.  

    This allows companies to reduce development costs, accelerate assessments, and access demanding markets with safer solutions.  

    In a context of increasing vulnerability, it is essential to generate knowledge on fire safety in the wild-land-urban interface, where environmental care and social and constructive risks converge.
    To this end, the FIRE laboratory is being promoted, an advanced technological infrastructure that will enable TECNALIA to study real fire scenarios, assess the vulnerability of buildings, and develop new mitigation and regulation methodologies.

    Socially, we contribute to the improvement of people's safety and the sustainability of the built environment. 

    In the coming years, multifunctional façades with bio-based materials, building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), energy storage solutions (batteries), infrastructure, and vehicles using hydrogen or other alternative fuels, and new industrialised construction methods will play a leading role.  

    All these technologies require a rigorous fire risk assessment. The digitalisation of test facilities, advanced simulation, and artificial intelligence applied to fire performance prediction will be the keys to their safe and sustainable implementation.
