Digitalización de edificios históricos con una innovadora herramienta web

"The tool assesses the readiness of properties without compromising their cultural value"

TECNALIA has developed an innovative web tool aimed at accelerating the digital and energy transition of historic non-residential buildings in Europe

We are taking a step towards the sustainable modernisation of Europe's architectural heritage with the development of a new web tool to calculate the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) in non-residential historic buildings. This innovative solution, presented as part of the SMARTeeSTORY initiative, assesses the readiness of buildings to integrate smart technologies without compromising their cultural value.

Adoption of energy efficiency, connectivity and automation solutions

The tool is based on the European Commission’s official SRI calculation method: it offers an intuitive analysis environment that facilitates the work of owners, administrations and energy experts.

Thanks to its specialised design, the system incorporates criteria adapted to the particularities of heritage buildings. The property’s capacity to adopt smart solutions can be evaluated in areas such as:

    • Energy efficiency
    • Connectivity
    • Automation
    • Integration of renewable energy

It provides a full overview of the technical and economic feasibility of the interventions

Improvements introduced in the new version include the possibility of defining selection criteria according to energy, environmental or economic priorities. They also include the incorporation of personalised recommendations to plan interventions compatible with the limitations of the protected heritage. The system also integrates a financial module that analyses the profitability of the actions, providing a full overview of their technical and economic feasibility.

The tool, whose development has been led by TECNALIA with the support of RINA-C in the financial aspects, incorporates technical optimisations aimed at facilitating its use and extending its applicability in different European scenarios.

    Tool validated in three buildings

The system has been tested in three demonstrator buildings in Riga (Latvia), Granada (Spain) and Delft (The Netherlands). These real environments have enabled the usefulness of the tool in different European contexts to be validated and demonstrate its potential to support digital and energy refurbishment decisions in the field of built heritage.

Through this initiative, TECNALIA consolidates its commitment to innovation in the management of cultural heritage, providing tools that combine sustainability, efficiency and preservation of the architectural legacy.
