European Association of Fire Laboratories annual meeting

    3 May 2023

    Reunión anual Egolf

“We are working to improve fire safety in Spain and Europe with relevant companies and organisations in the sector”

TECNALIA attended the annual meeting of EGOLF, European Association of Fire Laboratories

Our Fire Safety Laboratory attended the EGOLF annual meeting, held in Ljubljana (Slovenia) from 18th-20th April 2023. Several meetings were held at this annual meeting; the committees where technical aspects related to reaction (TC1) and resistance (TC2) to fire were discussed, the committee dedicated to product certification issues (TC4) and finally the plenary, where financial aspects and the general functioning of the organisation were addressed.

TECNALIA is a member of EGOLF, European Group of Organisations for Fire Testing, Inspection and Certification, since 2014, thanks to its constant commitment to improving fire safety standards in Europe.

This laboratory has a wide range of equipment and facilities to carry out fire performance studies and tests, which allow the resistance and reaction of materials, products and construction systems to high temperatures and smoke to be assessed. In this way, the safety of people and property can be ensured in the event of a fire.

Fire safety in Spain and Europe

TECNALIA works to improve fire safety in Spain and Europe through its participation in research and innovation projects and its constant collaboration with relevant companies and organisations in the sector.

    EGOLF's specific objectives include:

    • Promote collaboration between European organisations involved in research, assessment and certification of fire safety related products and systems.
    • Encourage research and development of new technologies and materials to improve fire safety.
    • Develop and promote European regulations and standards that establish minimum fire safety requirements for building products and systems.
    • Carry out tests and trials to assess the fire resistance of construction products and systems and to issue certifications that guarantee their safety.
    • Provide information and training to professionals in the construction, safety and fire prevention sector to improve their knowledge and capacity to respond to emergencies.

Ultimately, EGOLF works to ensure fire safety in Europe by promoting research, developing regulations and standards and certifying products and building systems that meet established safety requirements.
