Spain fosters the first AI Sandbox: the first comprehensive law on AI
The European Union adopted the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) on 13th March 2024, the world’s first comprehensive law on AI. This framework regulates the use of artificial intelligence to ensure that it is safe, ethical and people-centred, protecting fundamental rights, health, security and sustainability.
The Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration has launched Spain’s first AI Sandbox. This regulated environment aims to support SMEs and start-ups to adopt the requirements of the AI Act, especially in systems classified as high risk.
TECNALIA provides experience in applied cybersecurity
Our colleague, Óscar Lage, Director of Cybersecurity Strategy and Technology at TECNALIA, has been selected as an expert for the AI Sandbox.
Its work focuses on analysing the requirements of the AI Act from a methodological and technical perspective, assessing their adequacy to the real challenges of security, robustness, risk management and governance.
Contribution to the development of technical guidelines
Óscar will participate in the review and improvement of the Technical Guidelines that underpin the regulated environment, providing a specialised view on artificial intelligence and applied cybersecurity.
Furthermore, he will collaborate in resolving queries and drawing up recommendations for the participating teams, reinforcing security and quality criteria in the development and responsible deployment of AI systems in Spain.
