“TECNALIA provides knowledge, support in identifying non-compliant products and contributes to the development of standards”

The UNE Market Surveillance Observatory, in which TECNALIA is involved, presented its 5th Annual Report, a key document towards strengthening public-private collaboration on monitoring products and services in Spain

The report was prepared in conjunction with more than 50 business organisations and various national authorities and underlines the importance of regulatory compliance to ensure that products on the market are safe, compliant and competitive.

43,328 product lines were inspected in 2024, 97% of which complied with the regulations in force, an indicator of the positive impact of market surveillance on consumer protection.

The report also highlights the role of technical and certification bodies such as AENOR, which make a decisive contribution to assessing conformity and the continuous improvement of product quality.

1,171 laboratory tests were carried out as part of national and regional campaigns, while the national Alert Network handled 443 alerts on non-food consumer products, allowing them to be withdrawn quickly when they posed health or safety risks. These data reflect an increasingly robust control ecosystem, adapted to new marketing channels, particularly in the digital environment.

The European regulatory framework and strengthening of coordination mechanisms between competent authorities

The document also analyses the evolution of the European regulatory framework and the strengthening of coordination mechanisms between competent authorities.

    • TECNALIA's involvement in the Observatory is particularly significant, as it provides technical knowledge, support in identifying non-compliant products and contributes to the development of standards that facilitate legislative compliance.
    • Their involvement, together with that of organisations such as AENOR, consolidates a market surveillance model that builds confidence, security and competitiveness in the Spanish business sector.
