"Testing wet suits in accordance with EN 14225-1 ensures compliance with current European regulations and guarantees the safety, quality and comfort of the wet suit, which can have a significant impact on the user's experience in the water"

The tests are accredited by ENAC/ILAC under the ISO 17025 standard

TECNALIA, a leading materials engineering laboratory , is the only laboratory in Europe accredited to perform "all tests" on diving wet suits in accordance with the EN 14225-1 standard . Wet suits are essential products to ensure the safety of divers when diving and TECNALIA is helping to make these dives even safer through these tests.

All the tests carried out by TECNALIA to assess the conformity of diving and surface wet suits are accredited by ENAC/ILAC (International Organisation for Accreditation Bodies) under the ISO 17025 standard. This means that customers can rely on TECNALIA's test results to improve the safety of their products and collaborate in the development of new products.

The CE marking is intended to ensure protection against hypothermia or water seepage

Diving wet suits and surface suits sold in the European Union (EU) must bear the CE marking as required by Regulation (EU) 2016/425 of the European Parliament and of the Council on personal protective equipment, as these products are considered Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in Europe and therefore must comply with the essential health and safety requirements set out in the regulation for they are placed on the market.

This regulation seeks to ensure the protection of users of such products, who may be exposed to risks such as hypothermia or water seepage, among others. Companies manufacturing or importing these products must ensure that they comply with the legal requirements and have the CE marking before they are sold on the European market. These tests are therefore of interest to wet suit manufacturers, distributors and retailers selling wet suits on the European market, as well as to certification bodies assessing the conformity of wet suits with the EN 14225-1 requirements.

Testing wet suits at TECNALIA generates confidence in terms of safety, quality and comfort

Compliance with the harmonised EN 14225-1 standard guarantees compliance with the requirements of the PPE Regulation and the conformity assessment of the CE marking applicable to diving suits (Module B), as well as ensuring the following aspects:

  • Safety: EN 14225-1 sets out the minimum safety requirements for wet suits, ensuring that they are safe and reliable for use in aquatic environments. Testing to this standard helps to detect any potential defects or problems in the wet suit before it is used in the water.
  • Quality: Testing in accordance with EN 14225-1 ensures that the wet suits meet the required quality standards, which means they are tough, durable and designed to withstand the rigours of use in the water.
  • Comfort: Testing the wet suit in accordance with EN 14225-1 can also help to ensure that the suit fits the user correctly, which can improve comfort during use. A well-fitted wet suit can reduce fatigue and improve buoyancy, which can be crucial to the user's safety and performance in the water.

Wet suits are essential products to ensure the safety of divers during dives by helping to make them safer.
