“TECNALIA participates in several initiatives in Africa and welcomes in its facilities the visit of a group of vocational training students from Malawi”

TECNALIA received the visit of a group of Vocational Training students from Malawi. This visit has taken place within the framework of the Smart Energy Solutions for Africa and Supporting Alliance for African Mobility initiatives.

A group of Malawi students from the Don Bosco Youth Tech Institute Educational Vocational Training School are being trained at the San Viator school in the Basque Country, a TECNALIA partner. With the aim of enriching their educational experience, the students have been invited to visit TECNALIA’S facilities to show them how researchers work at the applied research and technological development centre.

During their visit, the students were able to learn how TECNALIA collaborates with companies and institutions to improve their competitiveness, people’s quality of life, and achieve sustainable growth.

Smart energy solutions for Africa

SESA (Smart Energy Solutions for Africa) is a collaborative initiative between the European Union and nine African countries (Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, and Tanzania). This initiative aims to provide energy access technologies and business models that are easily replicable and generate local opportunities for economic development and social cohesion in Africa. The SESA initiative, of which TECNALIA is a member, seeks to mitigate climate change and avoid gridlock, while improving access to sustainable energy sources in affordable and reliable conditions in Africa.

To achieve the objectives, technology demonstrators will be set up in nine African cities and regions where innovations will be co-created in cooperation between consortium members, innovators, and local communities, and tested in urban and rural environments. The solutions are intended to be replicable and, to this end, as part of an effort to go beyond the state of the art and maximise the impact of the project, innovations will be jointly developed with local partners and close cooperation with similar initiatives will be pursued to exploit synergies.

Supporting Alliance for African Mobility

The SAAM (Supporting Alliance for African Mobility) initiative, coordinated by the St. Viator VET centre, has created a VET Network based on peer-to-peer connections between VET schools in Africa and Europe in order to achieve successful results, provide greater impact, and create real and thriving connections.

In addition, Don Bosco Youth Tech Institute is interested in joining the SESA project and collaborating in training and other ways that may arise. It is hoped that the synergies between both initiatives can be extended to schools in other African countries involved in both projects.
