"Key technologies for the next generation of aircraft"
We are developing unconventional wings for more efficient and sustainable aviation
The initiative, led by Aernnova Engineering,, is investigating new wing configurations for subsonic and supersonic aircraft. TECNALIA provides its expertise in the manufacture of advanced structures using non-conventional laminates, new composite materials and the study of the compatibility with sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
The aviation of the future will require solutions capable of improving aerodynamic efficiency, reducing the weight of structures and addressing the challenges associated with supersonic flight. With that in mind, XHEGALAK was set up to develop new, unconventional wing configurations and advanced technologies for the next generations of aircraft.
Wing design
TECNALIA contributes to the design of the wings by developing innovative solutions that optimise the structural performance and sustainability of aerostructures.
Its main lines of work include research into manufacturing processes for non-conventional laminates for lightweight structures; the development and characterisation of composite materials capable of withstanding the high temperatures of supersonic flight; and the study of how these materials behave when exposed to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to ensure their safe integration into fuel tanks.
