"The ORE4CITIZENS initiative has been awarded the prize for Best Talent Initiative in the Energy Sector"
ORE4CITIZENS has been recognised for its contribution to fostering careers in science and technology and for bridging the gap between citizens, science and renewable energy
The ORE4CITIZENS initiative has won the award for the Best Talent Initiative in the Energy Sector at the 2026 edition of the Energy Night, organised by El Periódico de la Energía. This award recognises a project that brings renewable energy closer to citizens, inspires new careers in science and technology and raises awareness of the role of marine renewable energy in the energy transition.
Since its launch, ORE4CITIZENS has worked to bring research, innovation and the energy sector closer to society, focusing particularly on the new generations. Through educational activities, workshops, meetings with professionals and participatory initiatives, the project aims to spark interest in science and technology from an early age and contribute to a more inclusive energy transition.
Impact of ORE4CITIZENS
During the ceremony, the ability of ORE4CITIZENS to bring science, industry and citizens together was highlighted. The initiative has involved more than 18,000 schoolchildren, becoming a benchmark in the promotion of talent in the field of marine renewable energy and the climate challenge.
This award is the result of the joint work carried out by TECNALIA, EHU, BCAM and Euskampus; and the more than 20 collaborating companies and organisations that have gradually joined the various activities.
For TECNALIA, this award provides a boost to continue developing initiatives that bridge the gap between innovation and society, encourage careers in STEM and help train the people who will lead the energy transition over the coming decades.
Energy innovation
Furthermore, TECNALIA, alongside Vicinay Marine, was one of the three finalists for the award for the Best Energy Innovation Initiative at the Energy Night, with the smart corrosion monitoring system for critical offshore infrastructures.
This is a solution designed to ensure the integrity of infrastructures, reduce operational risks and optimise maintenance strategies.
