TECNALIA at BIEMH 2026: technological innovation in industry

This year, not only do we feel the factory, but we make it think, we make it talk and we make it act before the problem arises.

    01

    TECNALIA at BIEMH 2026

TECNALIA took part at the Biennial Machine Tool Exhibition (BIEMH 2026), presenting twenty technological demonstrations developed in collaboration with companies from various sectors.

These demonstrations showcased solutions for the engineering, production and intralogistics sectors, and featured some of our latest innovations in robotics, artificial intelligence, welding, autonomous additive manufacturing, and intelligent machines and processes. Our aim is to provide companies with technological solutions tailored to industrial environments.

Engineering, production and intralogistics at the TECNALIA stand

We split the areas of our stand up to make it possible to explore the various stages of the industrial process from engineering through to production and intralogistics. That is where you could find out more about specific applications of artificial intelligence, robotics, automation and advanced manufacturing technologies.

We showcased our prototype machines and solutions, which have been designed to transform the industry by maximising organisations’ productivity and generating savings that have a direct impact on competitiveness, across an area of almost 300 square metres.

Industrial innovation developed in collaboration with companies

The demonstrations at BIEMH were linked to projects carried out by TECNALIA in collaboration with industrial companies such as IBARMIA, Irizar Forge, AMETS, IDEABLE, ACEROS OLARRA, SmartPM, MTORRES, NICOLÁS CORREA, Astilleros Murueta and ZEATZ.

This collaboration has made it possible to apply technological developments to specific industrial settings and demonstrate their use in real-world processes.

New at this year’s BIEMH. This humanoid robot is currently at the research stage, and is designed to explore the collaboration between humans and robots in dynamic industrial environments.

The demonstrator combines advanced remote operation with reinforcement learning and imitation learning techniques. It can replicate human gestures, adapt to its surroundings and carry out logistical tasks such as handling parts, monitoring conditions and detecting visual anomalies.

Alongside this, autonomous systems manage the internal transport of materials, identify locations and optimise routes in real time.

In the production area, TECNALIA showcased iWeld, an adaptive solution for welding and autonomous additive manufacturing designed to automate welding processes and boost productivity.

The system adapts the operation to the different joints and geometries of parts and adjusts welding trajectories and parameters in real time.

Also in the production area, we used a machine simulator to demonstrate various use cases relating to machines and processes capable of adapting in real time to the needs of each operation to ensure quality and productivity.

The engineering section featured a drawing analysis tool based on visual AI. The solution automatically identifies similar drawings, extracts dimensions and detects relevant views.

Applying it makes it possible to reduce the time it takes to prepare quotations and set up processes, centralise widely-dispersed technical knowledge and reuse previous programming.

Strategic discussions with leading companies in the sector

As part of the exhibition, TECNALIA held The Proactive Factory Live, a series of meetings with leading companies that shared challenges, learnings and opportunities: These conversations confirmed the importance of The Proactive Factory as a direct response to current industry challenges, and its ability to create measurable improvements in productivity, efficiency and sustainability.
