Anticipate The Future: en TECNALIA, el futuro lo construimos hoy

“Anticipate the Future is a new campaign with which we are reinforcing the concept of anticipation”

We anticipate in order to turn major challenges into opportunities

At TECNALIA, we believe that the future is already underway and we must anticipate it. For this reason, we have launched the "Anticipate The Future" campaign, an initiative that reflects our understanding of innovation and applied research: as tools to develop pioneering solutions for the major challenges of tomorrow.

We present our strategic focuses of innovation, share how we are working to ensure that key sectors of our economy will evolve towards more sustainable, efficient and safe models through thirteen informative videos. Each focus represents a challenge, a leadership opportunity and how organisations can see their path to building a more efficient and sustainable future through our anticipation.

Flexible automation: systems that learn and adapt

Automation is no longer about repeating tasks. For this reason, we develop smart systems that learn, readjust and change functions without having to start from scratch. We equip robots and machines with sensors that enable them to perceive the environment and make decisions in real time, supported by artificial intelligence that speeds up their programming. In this way, we respond to the lack of skilled labour and increasingly demanding processes.

Smart Monitoring: seeing the invisible, anticipating the unpredictable

Technology is advancing rapidly, and with it, the need for new ways of monitoring. We work with quantum sensors that are capable of detecting phenomena that are imperceptible with other technologies. This enables us to open up new opportunities in critical infrastructure, health and safety, such as early detection of cancer. Continuous monitoring will be key to ensure the efficiency and safety of solar parks, hydrogen trains or smart grids.

Hydrogen: clean energy for a decarbonised economy

We know that hydrogen will be essential to decarbonise the economy. For this reason, we are accelerating its arrival through technologies such as AEM electrolysis. In conjunction with the University of Eindhoven, we have developed a pioneering technology that led to H2SITE, a start-up that now employs more than 60 people. We want hydrogen to be a reality in sectors such as steel, mobility and the chemical industry.

Fire safety: innovation to provide solutions to new risks

Each new technology brings new risks. TECNALIA improves fire safety in batteries, industrialised construction, hydrogen technologies or photovoltaic systems. We do so by integrating experimental platforms with digital tools that enable us to anticipate how materials and systems react to real fire situations. Therefore, we guarantee safe and reliable implementation.

Smart grids: digitalisation against climate change

To meet climate targets, we will need to build more electricity grids over the coming 25 years than ever before. We are developing solutions to make these networks smarter, more secure and more efficient, through digital twins, edge computing, artificial intelligence, hybridisation and storage technologies. We anticipate in order to move energy intelligently.

CO2 capture and recovery: turning the problem into a resource

At TECNALIA, we see CO₂ not as a problem, but as an opportunity. We are developing advanced technologies to capture it and transform it into synthetic fuels, sustainable materials or chemical compounds.

Cybersecurity: for fast and secure digitalisation

Digitalisation is advancing fast, and our challenge is to do so securely: we protect industrial products, autonomous systems and essential services through applied cryptography, cyber intelligence and artificial intelligence. We also work on confidential computing and quantum communications to safeguard sensitive data.

Smart Medical Devices: smart and connected healthcare

Artificial intelligence will enable medical devices of the future to make more complex decisions and consume less resources. Therefore, we are developing technologies for early diagnosis, non-invasive neuromodulation and robotic automation. We are anticipating this future to design tomorrow's healthcare today.

Manufacturing processes and materials: industrial competitiveness

TECNALIA develops advanced manufacturing processes and ultra-resistant, lightweight materials with unique properties. We think about critical applications that drive business competitiveness. We want companies to be prepared for any environment and conditions that are sometimes critical.

Smart Construction: modular, sustainable and efficient

Building is no longer just about bricks and mortar. TECNALIA is committed to new, faster and cleaner ways of building, optimising processes through digitalisation and robotics. The future of construction will be modular, smart and sustainable, and we are already working to make that happen.

    Low altitude economy

There is a world of possibilities up there. Specifically, in airspace below 1,000 feet. Drones for logistics, surveillance, emergencies, agriculture... We are committed to this future and are creating the infrastructure and solutions to make it possible.

Technologies in the development and manufacture of medicines

In the pharmaceutical sector, what used to take years, now seeks to be done better and faster. TECNALIA combines galenic and analytical technology, digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence applied to scaling and manufacturing processes, so that medicines are produced sooner and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

The future is already unfolding. TECNALIA anticipates it

We don't just talk about innovation and applied research: we work to make it happen. With #AnticipateTheFuture, we share our vision and commitment to a safer, more efficient and sustainable future. Anticipating is not just about foreseeing what is coming. It is building it.
