"TECNALIA is responsible for preparing the "Climate Update" Report, which will be a good starting point for developing regional climate resilience policies in Europe"

Europe's average surface temperature increased by half a degree in 2021 compared to the 1981-2010 average, according to data from Copernicus, the European Union's Earth Observation Programme

In light of this climate emergency, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is aware of the negative consequences of human inaction. They are therefore working on the development of detailed studies at a regional and local level, taking into account different possible scenarios to enable appropriate impact assessments.

The "Climate Update" Report

In this context, and within the European ESPONprogramme, TECNALIA has been commissioned to prepare the "Climate Update" Report, which will be a good starting point for developing regional climate resilience policies in Europe.

The report is being prepared by TECNALIA's Adaptation to Climate Change team , led by the expert, Efrén Feliu, will help to understand how climate change will affect the competitiveness and cohesion of European regions and Europe as a whole.

The report provides updated data and indicators related to the aggregate exposure, sensitivity and potential impact of climate change in Europe's regions, and to the adaptive capacity and vulnerability of European regions. The updated data and resulting maps will be analysed in relation to current policies, and interpreted to provide key observations tailored to policy makers.

This update of the report maintains traceability with the original ESPON CLIMATEproject. At the same time, it is aligned with other key initiatives in the new European Adaptation Strategy, such as the JRC PESETA IV Report, the European Climate Data Explorer or the Climate Data Store of the Copernicus Climate Change Service.
