    José Luis Elejalde named as the new chairman of ACLIMA

    José Luis Elejalde has taken over as chairman of the Basque Environment Cluster in order to strengthen business collaboration and speed up the green transition

    José Luis Elejalde, Director of Energy, Climate and Urban Transition at TECNALIA, has been named as the new chairman of ACLIMA, the Basque Environment Cluster, after receiving the backing of its General Assembly at an event held in Donostia-San Sebastian.

    This appointment will see Elejalde take over the reins of an organisation that is made up of the leading business, industrial, technology and environmental services organisations in the Basque Country.

    • ACLIMA is a leader in the environmental sector, and is made up of more than a hundred organisations that are working to increase business competitiveness through innovation and sustainable development, and actively helping to tackle environmental and climate challenges.
    • The environmental sector currently accounts for more than 5.3 per cent of the Basque Country’s GDP, reflecting the growing importance of sustainability, the circular economy, efficient resource management, decarbonisation and environmental innovation in the region’s economic development.

    Green transition and collaboration

    In this new phase, Elejalde will aim to strengthen the cluster’s position as a key player in the green transition, by fostering collaboration between companies, public authorities and knowledge centres and driving forward innovative solutions to tackle today’s environmental challenges.

    According to Elejalde, “ACLIMA is playing a key role as a driving force behind the green transition, bringing together business and technological capabilities to tackle environmental challenges. It is both a responsibility and an opportunity to pursue an agenda that strengthens the competitiveness of the business sector, as we move towards a more sustainable model”.

    José Luis Elejalde has extensive experience in the fields of innovation, sustainability and technology management, with a strong track record in carrying out projects aimed at environmental improvement and industrial competitiveness. In his role at TECNALIA, he has helped to drive forward advanced technological solutions in key areas linked to the energy transition, the circular economy and sustainable development.

    His knowledge of the business and technology ecosystem, together with his strategic vision, will be key to leading this new phase for ACLIMA, which will seek to strengthen the cluster’s role as a benchmark for sustainability and as a strategic partner for companies as they adapt to new regulatory and market frameworks.

    The appointment was formalised at the ACLIMA General Assembly, where the main lines of action for the coming years were also set out, focusing both on the sector’s economic growth and on the strategic challenge
