New TECNALIA chair at the university of Granada

17 September 2019

To foster the use of Artificial Intelligence

The Rector of the University of Granada, Pilar Aranda, and the Deputy Director for Technology at TECNALIA, Jesús Valero, have signed a collaboration agreement for the creation of the "TECNALIA Artificial Intelligence Chair" at the University of Granada (UGR). Its goal is to promote applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various markets from knowledge and scientific-technological excellence.

The Chair, attached to the Andalusian Research Institute in Data Science and Computational Intelligence (DaSCI), will be led by Francisco Herrera Triguero and Óscar Cordón García. Both are currently professors of Computing Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Granada. As for TECNALIA, those responsible for the Chair will be Javier del Ser Lorente, main researcher and head of the Artificial Intelligence Platform; and Alberto Diez Olivan, main researcher of the Smart Systems Platform.

The new Chair will serve to generate an initial formal and strategic link between the teams researching Artificial Intelligence at UGR and TECNALIA, with a view to spreading its transforming nature to sectors like Construction and Urban Environment: Digital twin, Cybersecurity, ITS/Logistics, and Industry 4.0.

To do so, the Chair will offer training activities, award grants to students, organise conferences and seminars, hold scientific and technological dissemination workshops for companies, release joint publications in related high impact journals, participate in knowledge dissemination and transfer projects and collaborate in the development and piloting of assets based on applied AI, among others.
