TECNALIA is working on conserving built heritage in the WoodRepair project.
In-depth knowledge of pathologies and the different structural timber intervention techniques are essential for ensuring that timber structures in residential environments, particularly historic buildings with heritage value, are preserved. The WoodRepair initiative is aimed at enhancing technical knowledge on renovating timber-framed buildings. It studies the different techniques for repairing and reinforcing timber floor slabs, and meets current regulatory standards, while preserving traditional construction systems and the structural capacity of existing timber.
- Over the course of the project, the different structural pathologies that can be commonly found in housing slabs and the various technical repair and reinforcement solutions used in professional practice have been documented.
- In addition, a mechanical characterisation test campaign and performance comparison of some of the most common reinforcement techniques was carried out at TECNALIA's physical and mechanical testing laboratories in Azpeitia: reinforcement with rods and resins and reinforcement with structural bolts.
