"TECNALIA designs, develops and operates the whole prototype of electrolysers for industry"
Green hydrogen is considered to be a key molecule for the decarbonisation of our economy
Green hydrogen contributes to the decarbonisation of industrial processes, where it is used as a raw material or substitute for natural gas. On the other hand, it is essential in the decarbonisation of heavy mobility, either as a fuel in the form of hydrogen or its derivatives (methanol, ammonia, SAF).
TECNALIA is responsible for two major activities in the field of electrolysers for the production of green hydrogen.
- First of all, we research and develop innovative electrolysis technologies in order to reduce the cost of hydrogen.
- Secondly, we support companies in the testing and modelling of electrolysers for implementation in industry.
Development of electrolysers
We have developed the whole electrolyser, starting from its heart: the stack. We use innovative manufacturing and deposition technologies to prepare the membranes, electrodes and bipolar plates that make up the stack.
TECNALIA designs, develops and operates the whole prototype of electrolysers that supply green hydrogen to industry for testing, and as experimental platforms to test stacks and plant balance components. All this knowledge in manufacturing and testing electrolysers contributes to feeding the advanced models of electrolysers and hydrogen systems that TECNALIA has developed in order to dimension hydrogen plants and hydro generators with an optimised cost and taking into account safety aspects.
