Driving Europe’s cognitive computing continuum ecosystem

The NexusForum.EU project, a coordination and support action aimed at clearly and coherently tackling future research and innovation challenges in the cognitive computing continuum, has been launched.

Cognitive computing is an emerging paradigm that combines cloud computing and the internet of things as a means of delivering intelligent, personalised services to users and organisations. This is a strategic area for the European Union. It has an extensive ecosystem of projects and initiatives funded by the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programmes.

Competitive, innovative, inclusive, responsible cognitive computing continuum

NexusForum.EU builds on the activities and impact generated so far within the existing EUCloudEdgeIoT ecosystem. It also provides a forward-looking vision in new areas and directions that have not yet been addressed in Europe.

NexusForum.eu will contribute to developing a cognitive computing continuum that is competitive, innovative, inclusive and responsible, and that brings benefits to European society and the European economy.

To this end, it will carry out the following actions:

  • Provide a strategic perspective on the future of the cognitive computing continuum, in line with the priorities and progress of the new project of strategic interest to IPCEI-CIS in Europe and the European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud.
  • Collaborate with the EC in formulating annual research and innovation roadmaps and policy recommendations in key strategic areas. Incorporate analyses of the potential long-term economic, social and ethical consequences of new EU digital policies, identifying needs, opportunities and international synergies, particularly with Japan and South Korea.
  • Promote collaboration between different actors, involving investors, market leaders in the EU and users from different sectors, particularly SMEs, startups, spin-offs and companies.
  • Foster collaboration between European research and industry ecosystems and major initiatives in strategic democratic countries outside the EU, with a special focus on Japan and South Korea as partner (near-partner) countries under the Horizon Europe programme.
