Highlighting the Importance of Standardisation on World Standards Day

Every 14 October, the members of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) celebrate World Standards Day, which pays tribute to the tens of thousands of experts around the world who work together to develop the standards that disseminate knowledge.

This year, there is an ongoing focus on supporting and recognising organisations that develop standards that contribute to the success of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides a blueprint for dignity, peace and prosperity, now and in the future. In order to create this shared vision of a better world, all the UN Member States adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, to move forward as all countries take action in a global partnership.

TECNALIA and TECNALIA Certificación confirm their commitment to standardisation

For all these reasons, research and technological development centre TECNALIA and TECNALIA Certificación are joining in the celebration of this crucial event for the world of technology and innovation. Standardisation plays a key role in the creation of a better world by establishing standards and regulations that ensure the quality, safety and interoperability of products and services worldwide.

TECNALIA, with more than 1,500 researchers and experts on staff, has been a key pillar in the promotion of standardisation in various sectors, from sustainable energy to Industry 4.0. TECNALIA plays an important role in the relationship between standardisation and industry, as it is responsible for verifying that products and services comply with technical standards, and this helps the improvement of quality, safety and competitiveness in various sectors. TECNALIA’s work is closely linked to standardisation, as it provides the technical standards that serve as a reference for the assessments and certifications that it carries out for our clients in its accredited laboratories.

As well as its work in conformity assessment and certification, its active participation in international committees and working groups contributes to the formulation of standards that promote innovation, competitiveness and sustainability. The collaboration of experts around the world in the creation of international standards is essential in order to achieve a shared vision to address global challenges and build a safer and more sustainable future.

World Standards Day is an opportunity to highlight the positive impact of standardisation in everyday life. From the quality of the products we use to the safety of the infrastructure around us, international standards play a silent but essential role in promoting progress and innovation.
